This series of workshops was initiated in 1997 in Freiburg and continued in 2001 in Southampton, 2004 in Dublin, and in 2006 in Falcade. The aim of the workshop is to bring the leading scientists in the field of SECM together, and to stimulate intensive discussions, initiate cooperation, and improve the personal links in the field. Since the technology is spreading out to a variety of additional fields of interest such as corrosion science, investigation of liquid-liquid interfaces, application in biochemistry the workshop is open to all those interested in SECM and its present state of development.  Especially young scientists (PhD students and Post-Docs) are encouraged to participate in the workshop.
